Five teenaged males face numerous charges after committing a street-level robbery and then crashing the stolen car they used to flee the area.
On Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at approximately 2 p.m., officers in West Division responded to the area of Dellbrook Avenue and Brock Road in Pickering regarding a street-level robbery that had just occurred. A 20-year-old male was approached by a five male suspects in a grey Honda Civic. Three suspects exited the car, demanded his shoes and grabbed him by the neck. As he tried to flee, the car struck him on the leg.
Officers located the Honda, which had been stolen from a Pickering address overnight, and attempted to stop it on Valley Farm Road. The car sped away and rolled onto its roof when it failed to negotiate a turn. All five suspects were arrested as they tried to flee on foot.
Paul FERNANDEZ, age 19, of Plowman Drive in Ajax, Tyrell FRANCIS, age 18, of Ilfracome Crescent in Toronto, and three 16-year-old males from the Ajax/ Pickering area, are charged with: Robbery and Possession of Stolen Property. The 16-year-old males cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Tyrell FRANCIS is further charged with: Dangerous Driving and Fail to Stop.
All five males were held for bail hearings.
Investigators determined that Paul FERNANDEZ, Tyrell FRANCIS and one of the 16-year-old males were connected to an incident that occurred on August 19, 2016. A male victim was forcibly taken to his residence where the suspects ransacked the home and then later demanded cash from his family for his safe return. They face charges which include: Kidnapping; Robbery; Intimidation; and Uttering Threats.
