The American Music Award nominations were announced and Drake received a record-breaking 13, beating a record for most nominations in a single year set back in 1984 when Michael Jackson received 11. Drake’s nominations include Favourite Rap/Hip Hop Album for ‘Views’ and Artist of the Year, where he will face Rihanna, who received 7 nominations, as well as Adele and Justin Bieber, who are both up for 5 awards. Shawn Mendes picked up a nomination for New Artist of the Year, where he will face off against fellow Canadian, Alessia Cara.
‘Divergent’ series actress, Shailene Woodley was arrested for criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot while protesting the construction of the Dakota Access pipeline. Woodley had been livestreaming the protest on Facebook and was taken into custody while walking along a road near the pipeline route. A rep for Morton County Sheriff’s Department says 27 of the estimated 300 people in attendance were arrested during protests and that Woodley could face a $1500 fine and up to 30 days in jail.
