A 29-year-old male from Clarington suffered fatal injuries after being run over by a pickup truck driven by his friend.
On Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at approximately 4:40 p.m., officers from East Division were called to Symons Road, south of Baseline Road in Bowmanville, regarding an assist ambulance call. A 21-year-old male driver and his 29-year-old male passenger were parked in a GMC pickup on the roadway consuming narcotics. The passenger suffered an unexpected medical episode and was unresponsive. The driver removed him from the truck and attempted CPR on the ground before driving away to call for help. The driver then returned to the scene and inadvertently struck the passenger who was still lying on the roadway. The passenger was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Zachary PEPPER, age 21, of Bowmanville is charged with: Impaired Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle Cause Death. He was later release on an Undertaking with conditions. The name of the 29-year-old deceased Clarington man is not being released at the request of his family.
Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The road was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
