Two drivers have been charged with traveling 74 km/h over the speed limit yesterday morning in Whitby.
On Thursday, September 8, 2016, officers were conducting speed enforcement on Conlin Road East as part of the “In the Zone” Back to School enforcement campaign.
At 9:35 a.m., a blue Volkswagen Jetta was clocked at 124 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
Moorsalin HOSSAIN, age 19, of Cornwall, is charged with: Race a Motor Vehicle; Speeding – 124 in a 50 km/h Zone; Fail to Surrender Insurance Card; and Careless Driving.
At 11:03 a.m., a blue Corvette registered at 124 km/h in the same 50 km/h zone.
Donald McGRAW, age 57, of Whitby, is charged with: Race a Motor Vehicle; Speeding – 124 in a 50 km/h Zone; Drive Motor Vehicle – No Insurance; and Careless Driving.
Both drivers had their driver’s licences suspended and vehicles impounded for seven days.
Race a Motor Vehicle is a serious charge that comes with a mandatory seven-day driver’s license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment. Fines can go as high as $10,000 plus the court costs.
