Following a two-month investigation into counterfeit cheques, dubbed Project Defiance, 11 people are facing 55 charges.
The investigation revolved around counterfeit and NSF cheques cashed at numerous financial institutions and money service providers across the region by multiple persons. Project Defiance uncovered more than $70,000 worth of fraudulent cheque transactions.
On Tuesday, August 30, 2016, five search warrants were executed on three residences and two vehicles in Oshawa. Property and drugs were seized in connection with this investigation.
A list of the accused and their charges is attached. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are forthcoming.
