A 73-year-old Oshawa woman suffered fatal injuries and another woman was injured in a motor vehicle collision in Clarington on Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at approximately 1:16 p.m., officers in East Division responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Taunton Road and Middle Road in Clarington. A northbound compact pickup truck entered the intersection and collided with a westbound hatchback. The hatchback then left the roadway, coming to rest in the ditch.
The 73-year-old female driver of the hatchback was extracted from the vehicle and rushed to a local hospital before being sent to a Toronto-area trauma center. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital. The 72-year-old female driver of the pickup truck was transported to a local where she was treated for minor injuries.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
Both roads were closed for several hours while members from the Collision Investigation Unit investigated the scene. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
