It was deadly 24 hours on Durham roads as two women lost their lives in two separate accidents.
“Around 7:30 a tractor trailer unit and a single automobile collided and there was one fatality.”
A woman is dead after her car collided with a heavy utility vehicle north of Sunderland early Thursday morning. The road was closed off for several hours as the OPP investigated the crash. The woman’s son showed up on scene just before noon to find out more information on the crash. He said that she left the family home at 7 am, which is not far from the crash site, to go to church. The crash wasn’t the only accident to claim a Durham resident’s life in the last 24 hours.
“Just after 1:14 in the afternoon yesterday the officers were called to the intersection of Middle Road and Taunton Road in Clarington, a north bound vehicle pulled out in front of the hatchback that was travelling on Taunton and the hatchback went into the ditch. The 73 year old woman in the hatchback was taken to hospital but sadly she has succumbed to her injuries.”
The 72-year-old woman driving the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. No charges have been laid in either accident.
