A 24-year-old man is dead following a single vehicle crash in Scugog Township Sunday night. As Joe Scarpelli tells us, it followed a bizarre series of events.
“I was at work so I can’t go.”
Jaya Raja was the last person to see the victim alive Sunday. Raja works at a pizza shop. He says he served the victim shortly before he was killed. He says that the victim had demanded a ride home to Toronto. He says the victim became upset when he couldn’t help him.
“Then he called the police himself… that we are not helping him.”
Then as Raja was traveling home. He drove by an accident, the man was dead.
“I saw the accident so I stopped my car and I see inside the car, he’s the one. The same guy who was in our store.”
The crash happened just before 9 pm Sunday night. Police say a stolen car was travelling northbound on Old Scugog Road when the driver lost control. The car left the roadway and hit a tree on private property.
“He was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Police are still investigating the moments leading up to the crash.
“It does appear that alcohol was a factor.”
The man’s name hasn’t been released.
