Investigators arrested and charged one male after a complainant reported purchasing fraudulent tickets to the Tragically Hip concert in August.
On Wednesday July 13, 2016, the complainant attended Central East Division advising she had purchased two tickets to the August 12, 2016 concert and believed they were fraudulent. She met the seller in Scarborough to pay for and pick up the tickets. After the purchase, she noticed the ad for the same tickets remained on Kijiji and thought that was unusual. She contacted the seller using a different name, and he provided a picture of tickets containing the same section row and seat numbers. At that point she contacted police.
A meeting was set up with the seller and officers attended. The suspect fled from police and after a brief struggle he was arrested.
Coleman WARD, age 27, of Toronto, is charged with: Fraud Under $5,000; Escape Custody; Resisting Arrest; and Possession of Proceeds of Crime. He was held for a bail hearing.
Police would like to remind the public to be vigilant when purchasing venue tickets from non-authorized vendors or the Internet. There is no guarantee that the tickets are legitimate as they can be duplicated and sold as genuine.
Anyone who believes they may have purchased fraudulent tickets to this show from the accused is asked to contact their local police department.
