A 22-year-old Orono man suffered fatal injuries when the car he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree in Oshawa on Friday afternoon.
On Friday, July 1, 2016, at approximately 4:25 p.m., officers in Central East Division responded to Colonel Sam Drive east of Farewell Street regarding a single vehicle collision. Witnesses report the sedan involved in the collision left one of the businesses on Colonel Sam Drive travelling northbound. As the street curved to the west, the sedan failed to negotiate the curve and suddenly left the roadway, colliding with a tree.
The driver of the sedan suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced at the collision scene. His name is not being released at this time. The 20-year-old male passenger was extracted from the sedan and transported to a local hospital where he received emergency medical treatment.
The road was closed for several hours while members from the Collision Investigation Unit investigated the collision. Alcohol use and drug use are not believed to be factors in the collision.
