A 31-year-old contractor has been charged with fraud after three residents of Durham Region paid him a deposit, but never had the work completed.
On Tuesday, May 17, 2016, a resident of Pickering reported that he had contacted a contractor last September, who he had found online, with the intention of having concrete work done at his house. The suspect, who advertised the services of “The Cement Finisher” through the company TCF Contracting, provided the victim with a quote and was given a deposit. The suspect never returned to start the work.
Investigators determined that the same suspect had been reported by a Whitby resident and another Pickering resident, who both paid a deposit for a stamped concrete patio, and was suspected of cashing two forged cheques at a local financial institution.
On Sunday, May 22, 2016, the suspect was arrested at his residence. Investigators want to ensure there are no other victims.
Peter KROONE, age 31, of Oshawa, is charged with: Fraud Under $5,000 x5 and Utter Forged Document x2. He was later released on a Promise to Appear.
