Pepper Spray Attack Sends Five to Hospital

Durham, ON, Canada / channel12

Five people, including two children, were treated in hospital after a known acquaintance released bear spray into an apartment unit in Ajax.

On Monday, June 20, 2016, at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers from West Division responded to an apartment building on Kingston Road West for an unknown trouble call. Initial reports stated that a male had been stabbed and others had been struck with pepper spray. An adult resident of the unit was arguing with the suspect and demanded that he leave. As the suspect was being forcefully removed, he struck the resident with pepper spray, causing the resident to retreat. The suspect re-entered the unit and sprayed a large quantity of the pepper spray into the unit and then fled the area on foot.

The pepper spray affected all the people in the apartment, including two children, and all five were taken to a local hospital for treatment. No one was located with stab wounds.

The investigation is continuing.
