It’s hammer time in Oshawa as women from the community come together.
Hundreds of women in Durham Region were laying the hammer down in Oshawa over the next 5 days. The women will help build 4 town homes for Habitat for Humanity Durham.
“We are here for Habitat for Humanity homes for people bringing I guess homes to people who are not necessarily able to afford home ownership on their own.”
Over five days the volunteers who take part in the women build project will help build the 4 town homes located on Centre Street.
“It shows leadership of the women in the area and Durham Region and we really need to show female leadership in the area. We have some strong, gals in our area that we just need to showcase and I think this is a great place to do that.”
On Thursday women from Minacs helped install sod to the front yards of the new home, while some volunteers from Lakeridge Health help put together the walls of the home.
“It’s just giving back but we are having a lot of fun, we are getting dirty and it’s about team work but when we leave it’s knowing we are able to help people in need and I think for us that’s what really hits home.”
This year in Durham, women build will kick start Habitat for Humanity’s 3rd phase of Centre-town helping complete 18 of the 24 town homes.
