Police arrested two people after a Pickering resident was robbed at gunpoint of the jewelry he was selling online.
On Sunday, April 10, 2016, at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers from West Division responded to the area of Dixie Road and Finch Avenue regarding a robbery that had just occurred. The victim, a 55-year-old Pickering resident, met a female suspect at a sandwich shop to discuss a piece of jewelry he had advertised on Kijiji. The female grabbed the item and tried to run from the store. The victim grabbed her by the arm outside the restaurant, but a second suspect pointed a handgun at him and threatened him. The suspects escaped.
Approximately an hour later, police were called to a local hospital for a possible transportation fraud. Two suspects, a male and a female who had been driven to Pickering from the Hamilton area, had entered the hospital after the female experienced a medical emergency. Officers determined that the suspects matched the description of the robbery culprits.
A coordinated response with hospital security resulted in the arrest of the male and female without further incident. An unloaded handgun and a small quantity of heroin were seized from the suspects.
Deshaun YOUNG, age 22, and Jennifer MOYER, age 45, are charged with: Robbery; Use Firearm During an Offence; Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (heroin); and seven firearms-related offences. Both were held for a bail hearing.
