Three Partners Team Up for Roadway Safety

Durham, ON, Canada / channel12

As part of the OPP seat belt campaign in March, the Joint Service Enforcement Team (JSET) issued 31 seat belt charges in just two days.  The JSET team handed out almost 300 tickets last month and continues to focus on distracted driving and load restrictions in April.

DRPS launched a six-month partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Transportation to enhance roadway safety across Durham Region, with a focus on the Big Four Killers and commercial motor vehicle safety.

JSET members conducted enforcement at various locations throughout Durham Region with the following results in March:

287     Tickets issued

12        Summons issued

157     Commercial Motor Vehicles stopped

51        Commercial Motor Vehicle charges

35        Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections

1          Criminal Code charge

Officers enforce reduced load restrictions on trucks to protect Ontario’s highways during spring thaw, when road damage is most likely to occur.
